Final Evaluation
THE SQUARE
I feel that our project, the square, went somewhat according to plan, I think that at first I struggled with thinking of an idea, however once I had my mind set on a particular subject/idea I got into the swing of things. My idea at first was to paint shapes on my model because I saw and idea on pinterest. (the image below)
However, I then changed my idea to write things like "Insecure", "Beautiful" etc... on my models hands/arm. To achieve these photo's I used the cove studio twice, the first time getting some cool shots that I liked but I didn't like enough to exhibit. Then the second time I got a shot that I loved, which was my final image. I kept the original image and edited it many different ways but then decided on making the picture black and white, maxing the clarity and sharpness to give a very bold image.
At first I was going to use a series of 3 photo's, however I have now decided to use just one image, to focus the attention on the meaning of the photo. The photo I have decided to use for my final image is a black and white image, with the models hands covering her eyes with the word "insecure" written across her two hands. (the image below) The image shown below had a much darker background to begin with, which I preferred, however when I printed off the image it was much too dark and needed to be lighter, I changed the image about 3-4 times after I had printed it off first to get it to look better. Many times in the process of getting this image I have considered changing my mind on my idea, however I have asked for many peoples opinions on my photos and the concept of my idea and they all seemed to like it. However I had the image printed professionally and it looked out of focus and if I had re sized the image any bigger it would look pixelated/grainy. Therefore I chose to change my image to a similar photo but the model doesn't have anything written on her, just her face covered.
The concept of my idea was to have a meaning behind my photo, this meaning being that everyone is beautiful, however not everyone see's that they are beautiful, therefore I wrote "insecure" across the models hands and got her to cover her eyes because she can't see that she's beautiful and she is insecure about how she looks.
Overall, I felt this project was quite a challenge because we were literally told we could photograph whatever we wanted, no theme, nothing so I found coming up with a cool idea quite difficult, but hopefully my image and my concept will be good enough and people will enjoy seeing my work exhibited in studio 11.

Wednesday 25th November
Today we spent the half day we had just getting on with things that we needed to do, so I spent my time editing the photo's that I took in the cove yesterday and reading through my blog to see if it was all up to date and correct etc..I also helped Bridey pick out her final piece photo (which is of me) She had a cool technique of pinning her photo's onto the white board and getting peoples opinion to pick the right image. After our college day was over I went out with Lawrence, Bridey and Amy for waffles and we ended up walking to the hoe for sunset and I had only been on the hoe once so it was pretty exciting for me! Anyway I ended up taking some cool photo's that I really liked.

Tuesday 24th November
Today I really enjoyed because we were let into the cove to work independently on our ideas for the square project and I took lots of pictures that I love for my final piece. I'm mainly think that the first picture below will be my final image!! In the afternoon we had a session with Cass, talking about what the concept of our ideas were etc..and then we had a session with Jen, in which we had to record ourselves reading our blogs to see if we had any spelling, punctuation and grammar mistakes.

Monday 23rd November
Today we spent getting on with our own work, so in my case it was mainly editing photo's I had taken in the cove from last Tuesday. These photo's were for the square project that we were doing at the moment. We were also told that the deadline for this project was next Wednesday, however we didn't need to have our final images printed until a couple of days before the exhibition! Here are a few images that I took for my final piece and ended up playing around with, however I wasn't sure if I wanted to use them so I spoke to Chris and he told me that he liked the concept of the idea, however he was unsure on the lighting so he gave me the advice to re shoot tomorrow and compare the images.

Tuesday 17th November
Today we went into the darkroom and we were processing our film images that we had taken on the barbican a little while ago, unfortunately ours went missing so we used Amy's and Bridey's library film instead. I wrote down all of the "math stuff" to do with the darkroom which was how much developer, stop and fix that we needed.
.1 part developer + 9 parts water
.1 part stop + 19 parts water
.1 part fix + 14 parts water
In the afternoon we were allowed to just get on with what we needed to do e.g blogging, editing etc..for an hour or so and then we did a task with Jen on making surveys about our photo's.
At about 4pm me, Jordan, Lawrence, Amy, Sophie, Bridey and Ryan all left to go to the cove studio and take some photo's for our new project 'the square' I ended up taking some cool photo's, however im unsure whether to use them as my final piece for this project.
